Host Employers
Australian Academy of Sport Limited (AAS) is currently recruiting a number of trainees in a wide variety of industries. As a result we are able to offer your organisation the opportunity to benefit from hosting a trainee within your organisation - an additional human resource at no cost to your organisation.
What is a Host Employer?
A host employer is an organisation that has workers supplied by a registered Group Training Organisation (GTO). A registered group training organisation employs trainees under a training contract and places them with a host employer for the duration of their training contract. The registered group training organisation is responsible for the quality and continuity of the trainees’ employment and training and also provides additional support, as required, to ensure successful completion of the training qualification.
What are the host employment obligations?
As Host Employer, you are required to provide a safe and well managed workplace, with good work practices, genuine commitment to training and a willingness to provide good training opportunities for trainees.
As a Host Employer, we’ll need you to provide on-the-job training. You can do this by promoting and encouraging your trainee to learn new skills and experience in a safe working environment.
An AAS Trainee Field Supervisor will visit you on a monthly basis to monitor our trainee's progress and to discuss any issues that may arise. As the Host Employer you are to keep AAS informed of the trainee's performance, skills, attitude and progress.
We ask you to check and sign the trainee' weekly time sheet as proof of hours worked at your place of business. These are forwarded to the AAS via fax or email. We also ask that you advise the AAS immediately of any accidents in the workplace, and to supply all details as required under WORKCOVER regulations.
What are the benefits to the Host Employer?
- Workforce at NO COST for your business during the period of the traineeship (360 Hours)

How do I become a Host Employer?
The first step towards becoming a host employer is to register with AAS or contact us by phone or email.
AAS will send the nominated contact person further information about School Based Traineeships and arrange for one of our industry consultants to come and see you. If you wish to proceed we add your organisation to our Trainee Placement Register, and as soon as a Trainee eligible for your organisation becomes available, we will coordinate interviews and monitor the placement suitability.
